Spineta: seventy years before on the beach of Allied Landing, the Avalanche operation

Now the sandy beach of Spineta has visited by tourists searching sun and sea, and the English o enjoy a cold beer while trying to benefit from the coolness offered by the beach umbrellas.

Yet, exactly seventy years ago thousand of British soldiers landed here by hundreds of Allied ships to break the resistance of the Germans Army. With them seventy thousands Americans under the command of General Clark, it was the Avalanche Operation.

This year marks the seventy years since that event and our goal is just to remember the sacrifice of so many young guys that with their contributions have given the impetus to build this long period of peace that all Europe benefits.

Some months before the Allies had already landed in Sicily, but needed a new faster acceleration to induce the Germans to retreat. The Allies prepare the landing in theis bases in Sicily and North Africa, and they began to bombard heavily Naples. Before september landing Battipaglia wasnot affected until 21 June 1943, when the airplanes, typically directed to Naples, went in direction of Battipaglia in greater numbers and suddenly the doors open, the first cargo of death destroys the city and others will follow in the months.

The goal was not the enemy positions but the infrastructure, Battipaglia was a crucial rail and road cross.
